Native to South Africa and widely cultivated in Russia, Egypt, Japan, and Central America and Europe, geranium is a perennial hairy scented shrub with pointed serrated edged leaves, and small pink flowers. There are hundreds of species of geranium, but only roseum or roseum asperum are used for essential oil extraction, which is steam distilled from the stalks and leaves. The essential oil is pale yellow to bluish-green, with a rosy, minty, lemony, sweet floral scent. Geranium is an invaluable skin healing essential oil, with strong anti-microbial and anti-fungal qualities. It is useful for combating infectious conditions, and eases anxiety, depression, headaches, balances mood swings, and eases stress and stress related conditions, among many other invaluable qualities
You will find deeper detail about this essential oil in my books, Essential Oils for Mindfulness and Meditation, and Essential Oils for the Whole Body
